Die Cut

Die Cut vs Kiss Cut Stickers. What is the Difference?

The difference between a die cut and kiss cut sticker.

When browsing our range of stickers you may stumble across the terms Die Cut and Sheet Stickers and you may be wondering what the differences between these two popular types of stickers are. We get asked this question a lot by customers so we thought we would make a blog post to try and answer this question as simply as possible.

First and foremost before understanding the differences between the two types of stickers, you should consider your application.

As both Die Cut and Kiss Cut stickers look the same when applied, it really comes down to presentation. (Note: At Printibly we call Kiss Cut Stickers Sheet Stickers, as we've found customers understand this term much better, a sheet may contain one or many stickers depending on size and quantity)

Die Cut Stickers: The easiest way to picture a Die Cut Sticker is to think of a shape. A Die Cut sticker will be cut to the exact shape meaning there is no excess backing sheet around the design. This type of sticker is great for handing out to customers or placing on your front counter in a neat stack. As each piece is an individual unit with no white space around it, your design really stands out.

Sheet Stickers (Kiss Cut): Like with their Die Cut counterparts, the cut line will still be around the edge of your design. It will still follow the exact shape of your design, but extra material will be placed around your design as padding or if your order contains lots of small stickers you will get many placed on a sheet. This achieves a couple of key benefits. Firstly your stickers will gain protection particularly around the edges from being bent or damaged during transport, this is important for intricate designs. Secondly, they are easier to peel and stick as you dont have have to try and "find a corner" to begin peeling. This may be worth considering if you have a lot to peel and stick.

Whichever option you choose, both will look the same when applied to a surface. This is why we tell customers the choice isn't really important in terms of end result, it simply comes down to presentation. If you plan on handing out single stickers then Die Cut would be your best choice. If you are planning on peeling and sticking yourself then a Sheet Sticker would be our recommendation.

As with all of our stickers at Printibly, you will receive an Online Proof of your design. You can change this as many times as you like for free until you are 100% happy before we produce your prints. This is crucial for understanding how your end product will look.
